People who say they are voting for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are probably low-information voters.

It's foliage time here.

Yesterday, we took a trip on a nostalgic steam engine railroad to a small tourist trap town, a one way 60 mile trip. It was beautiful.

We had about four hours between arrival and departure. There's literally nothing to do there but eat, drink and shop. As we were walking from shop to shop, I noted that one store had a sign at its entrance:

"People who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask."

And, I began to wonder what that means. I'm a geezer, waiting for the opportunity to get my booster shot. I've been jabbed twice but am expected to get the booster.

Am I fully vaccinated?

For me, it didn't matter. I nearly always wear a mask...as much as anything to help me with allergies as anything else so, I was masked.

Still, enlighten me. Am I considered to be fully vaxxed?

Right now, I think the CDC defines it as 2 weeks after your second Moderna or Pfieser shot or your single Johnson& Johnson shot. With the boosters now coming out I wouldn't be surprised if that changes at some point in the future.

Don't overestimate the efficacy of your mask as a protection from COVID. I asked two doctor friends yesterday if they knew of any percentages regarding efficacy of masks as a protection. They didn't know but both agreed properly worn, medical-quality masks are about 70% to 80% effective in stopping the infected wearers' SPREAD of COVID but masks are much less effective as a defensive measure.

Remember that unlike a cough, a sneeze or just breathing from an infected person's nose and mouth, their eyes are unlikely to expel the COVID virus. However a person wearing as mask could easily receive the COVID virus through their eyes.

Incidentally, asymptomatic people account for approximately 40 to 45% of COVID spread according to studies.

This is the very thing that the anti maskers don’t seem get or they just don’t care. When we put on a mask we are protecting others even more than ourselves. We could have asymptomatic covid and not know it.

It is a very important thing.

What's the status of mask mandates where you are?

Even where we live, masks are merely recommended.

Maine lifted its state mandates in May and as far as I know still only have "guidelines".
